About Laurelee Nelson

Laurelee Nelson (Dr. Melanie Brandt's mom) has lived in Kelowna for the last 30 years, and is a proud mother of four (now adult) children and grandmother to one baby grandson. She has been an active member of the Kelowna Running Club and has participated in many local running events and triathlons, including several Ironman Canada appearances. She has qualified for and raced at Ironman Hawaii (Kona) twice.

Over the years, Laurelee has competed in various half and full marathons, such as Victoria, Seattle, and Boston. One of her most treasured accomplishments was to be invited to write a chapter in a book about running called 'Running in the Zone - a Handbook for Seasoned Athletes', edited by Steve King and Dan Cummings.

Although Laurelee trains hard and races competitively, she believes in leading a balanced lifestyle, finding time for family, friends and a social life. Her goal is to be a role-model for those just starting out in their sports career. Whether it is running, swimming, cycling or all three, she will tell you that it's never too late to start training and to follow your dreams.
