Kelowna Chiropractic ServicesChiropractic is a hands-on therapy aimed at treating the source of musculoskeletal problems, not just the symptoms. The word “Chiropractic” is taken from Greek, and literally means “Done by Hand”; it is a natural, non-invasive, conservative method of healthcare. Chiropractors respect the human body's ability to heal itself without surgery or medications. Special attention is focused on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders as well as the effects these disorders have on the nervous system and the patient’s general health.Traditionally the main focus or concern with Chiropractic has been proper alignment of the vertebrae. Misalignments of the spinal column (subluxations) were believed to be the cause of many common ailments such as neck/back pain, headaches, etc; these misalignments were believed to pinch nerves as they exit the vertebral column, thus disrupting communication between the brain and body. Chiropractors were trained to correct these misalignments and the structure of the spine. Now, through continual research and education, many other factors are thought to be at play with pain and dysfunction. While alignment of the spine is important, proper functioning of the soft tissues around the spine are thought to be equally as important. Chiropractors are now trained to effectively examine, diagnose, and treat not just spinal dysfunctions, but the soft tissue dysfunction too, as one rarely exists without the other! This is why at Active Living Chiropractic we use soft tissue techniques such as Graston®, Active Release Technique®, and Kinesiotaping® along with traditional chiropractic to treat our patients. To read more about these techniques please see the links below. Did you know Chiropractors are also trained in treating extremities? At Active Living Chiropractic this is one of our favourite areas to treat; shoulders/elbows/wrists/ankles/knees/and hips, if you have an injury in any of these areas come in and let us check you out!
